Midcentury 1970s Tall Leather ‘Siesta’ Chair by Westnofa

Smart and stylish, this stained beech, bentwood lounge chair hails from Norway with a design dates from the 1960s. Made by Westnofa and designed by the renowned, Ingmar Relling, it’s a tall version of his acclaimed, iconic ‘Siesta’ chair that won his design recognition and cemented his reputation as a leading MCM designer. Even the White House was furnished with Relling’s Siestas back in the day! Its floating, curvaceous form combines striking good looks from every side with super comfort, its tilt and suspension providing great support. This is the tall version so comes with a head rest cushion and ‘sling’ leather arms. We love the signature detail of the cord running through the frame and seat canvas. These chairs offer an excellent alternative to bulkier, more traditional lounge chairs as the  proportions are compact and slim without compromising on comfort.

Full Condition Report
This vintage lounge chair is ‘sold as seen’. The chair has been thoroughly checked and cleaned. The bentwood frame has been revived with a natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original. The sectioned leather cushions are in very good order with working zips, plump feather inners and few signs of wear and tear, just light fading and wrinkling as you’d expect on vintage leather. The leather has been deep cleaned and a nourishing leather balm applied to restore suppleness and shine. The outside edge of one of the arms is a little scuffed and worn as shown but in the overall context of the chair, it’s barely noticeable. The hammock-style canvas and cord underneath is in good – very good order too with minor signs of aging as shown. There is some sunlight fading to the canvas and leather along the top back edge. It’s a very made piece with no wobbles or joint concerns. The Westnofa label is affixed to the base. Do browse our photos for an accurate representation of their condition and colour.
