Midcentury 1960s Austinsuite Teak Dressing Table by Frank Guille

Made in the mid-late 1960s and designed by Frank Guille for British furniture maker, Austinsuite, this is a beautiful teak dressing table with slim proportions and a clean, minimalist style . Featuring a large adjustable, framed mirror, there are six drawers providing lots of storage for powders and potions. We love the rolled handle design and striking pedestal legs which give it ‘space’ and elegance. A fine addition to a bedroom for someone enjoys taking their time to get ready. The mirror can be easily removed too, converting it to a stylish sideboard.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the dressing table and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces. The six drawers slide with ease and are in good, clean order throughout. As you can see from our photos, the drawers are a touch misaligned with use and age. There’s nothing wrong with them – no runner issues or repairs. They’ve just slumped and shifted with regular use over the years. It’s not particularly noticeable unless you’re eagle-eyed, nor does it affect their functionality but we always aim to be accurate and transparent about our pieces. The external wood is in very good order, including the top surface and the drawer fronts, with only minor scuffs and light fading. The large mirror angled on two hinges at the back. These are in good working condition and the mirror front and wooden surround are in great order too. At the back corner of the mirror there’s looks to be a light repair made – it’s been glued and secured in place. The mirror attaches to the base section with two upright brackets which can be removed, converting the piece to a sideboard / storage unit. The legs are in very good order with only minimal marks. This is a really well made, solidly constructed piece from Austinsuite. The gold Austinsuite stamp can be seen inside the top drawer and it dates from the 1960s.
