Midcentury 1960s AH McIntosh Round Extending Dining Table

This is an opportunity to acquire a fantastic, midcentury teak dining table at a great price by a great British furniture maker – AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy. This is a very well-made, good quality, vintage piece. There are some light marks and signs of wear on the table top which you could restore away if you so wished, but it makes this a good choice for a busy family home where you need a solid, robust ‘working’ table that you don’t have to be too precious with it. In its round mode it seats four and extended to an oval, it will comfortably seat six.

This is an original piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good – very good, used condition. The table has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural wax polish applied, but otherwise the original finish has been left well alone. As you will see when you browse our photos there are faint signs of wear and tear on the table top – some small scratches, light ring marks, and area of fading. We’ve opted not to remove the original finish to address / remove these imperfections as they aren’t particularly noticeable and we wanted to market this as a good quality, family dining table that you don’t need to be too precious with. If you so choose, these tables do restore well but due care needs taking not to spoil the veneer. We would recommend using a stripper rather than a sander to remove the original finish before treating with your choice of wood restorer. The table extends by pulling the two halves apart to reveal the folded extension beneath. This folds out with a simple, smooth movement and the two halves are pushed back in to secure it in place. The mechanism is also in very good working order and there are next to no signs of wear on the extension section. Extended, it can comfortably seat six. It’s a very well-made, British piece that’s solid and sturdy with no repairs. Sadly the McIntosh maker’s label is no longer attached but we believe this to be attributed to them.
