Mid-century 1970’s ‘Clipper’ Lounge Chair by Nissen & Gehl for Jeki

What a distinctive piece this ‘Clipper’ chair is. It dates from the late seventies, designed in 1977 for Jeki Mobler by Ebbe Gehl and Søren Nissen. Whichever angle you view it from, its shape is exaggerated and theatrical… and we’re here for it. It brings the drama and stands out from the crowd. Signature features are sling arms that pinch at the back and button down at the front; the head cushion that clips on with two button straps at the back; and the sweeping curve and tilt in profile. It’s in great order and, as you might have correctly assumed looking at it, it delivers on great comfort too. Tall, supportive and inviting. Those Scandinavians knew a thing or two about relaxing.

Full Condition Report
This vintage lounge chair is ‘sold as seen’. The chair has been thoroughly checked and cleaned. The bentwood frame has been revived with a natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original so there are light signs of use here and there. The three leather cushions are in good – very good order with working zips, plump inners and minor signs of wear and tear, just light blemishes and wrinkling as you’d expect on vintage leather – please refer to our photos. All the leather has been deep cleaned and a nourishing leather balm applied to restore suppleness and shine. The seat cushion is moored in place with poppers and the head rest cushion by two leather straps on wooden buttons at the back. The canvas underneath the cushions is in very good order too with minor signs of aging as shown. It’s a very nicely constructed piece with no wobbles, repairs or joint concerns. There is no maker’s mark but this distinctive design is well-documented so attributed with confidence. Do browse our photos for an accurate representation of their condition and colour.
