Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and buffed this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish on the legs, drawer fronts and lower trim is original. The desktop has been stripped, oiled and wax polished so a partial restoration overall. As you can see from our photos, some blemishes and scratches remain on the desktop. We take care when approaching restoration like this as we don’t want to be too invasive, risking further damage and stripping away all the aging and character. There is an area where veneer has been replaced (although noticeable, it’s been well done and is seamless) along with some ink stains which are shown. The two drawers slide with ease, are well-made with dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors with light signs of use inside. The handles are original and securely attached. Sadly we do not have a key for the lock. The other exterior surfaces – legs, lower trim and drawers – do carry light knocks, marks and signs of aging too as you would expect with a piece of this nature. Do refer to our photos for a accurate sense of its order. Overall, we feel the wear is part of its unique character and history. It’s very well-crafted, solid and stable. The Abbess maker’s stamp can be seen inside the drawer. If you’ve questions or would like to view, do get in touch.
