Large Vintage 1950s Solid Oak Pedestal Desk
This is a large, solid oak desk from the 1950s with generous proportions and plentiful storage. For all that the design is rather unfussy and no-nonsense, it’s a handsome, vintage piece. It would be perfect for the home worker who requires lot of work surface for planning and organising. There are four drawers for storage too. A fine, stately piece of functional furniture that’s really well made and has a great deal to offer either in the home or at the office.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have given the desk a thorough check and clean, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces. There are four drawers in total, well-made in solid oak with dovetail joints, with clean, tidy interiors and they all slide with ease. Sadly we do not have the key. As you can see in our photos, the drawer fronts, desk sides, back and legs do carry minor knocks, scuffs and marks in line with the piece’s considerable age and ‘working’ nature. There’s nothing specific to call out though and we feel this very much adds to its old fashioned appeal. It’s very well crafted, solid and stable – it’s heavy which should be noted. Unfortunately there is no maker’s mark but we believe it to be British and from a quality manufacturer.
