Large Victorian Vintage Solid Wood Chest of Drawers
We’re always charmed by grand, old-fashioned pieces of solidly-made furniture like this. These are the home’s quiet, reliable workhorses, serving our needs with no fuss and frivolity, and they slot effortlessly into the modern home. This large chest of drawers offers much storage with five drawers and it’s an every-day piece with life’s knocks and marks on show so you don’t need to feel precious about it. Well-made in solid wood, either mahogany or satinwood, with elaborate brass plate handles, it’s British in original and dates from the turn of the 20th century.
This is an original, vintage chest of drawers that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in good, used condition. We have partially restored this piece with light sanding, oil and wax polish to the exterior wood. Completing a full restoration would remove its history and charm in our view. We love it’s rather rustic good looks. The five drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and are clean and tidy inside. The external wood carries knocks and scuffs in line with its age and use. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of this piece’s order. There are drilled holes across the back panel. We’re not sure why they are there but they don’t affect the function of the piece, nor are they visible when set against a wall. This is a well-made piece that’s solid and sturdy, constructed in solid wood that is most likely mahogany or satinwood. It’s very heavy! Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it’s a classic, Victorian British piece.
