Vintage Teak Book Case / Cabinet by Herbert Gibbs

The sliding glass doors may no longer be in place (often a historical casualty with these particular pieces), but this is a fine, functional, vintage bookcase still, by British maker, Herbert Gibbs. Indeed, the open front with adjustable shelves means greater versatility as it can house items that spill out the front, such as plants, large books and more. The generous width but shallow depth make this a fantastic storage option where you don’t want something that will intrude into the room too much. We think this could be put to great use in a child or students’ bedroom, or indeed a hallway or landing. Masses of space for books and precious things, and a handy side cupboard for pieces to be hidden away.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in very good, used condition but it no longer has the glass sliding doors in place so it is now an open bookcase. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied.  There are two height adjustable shelves in the bookcase and a further adjustable shelf in the cupboard. These shelves and the interior wood are all in very good, clean and tidy order. The door swings with ease and has a working closure. There are very light signs of wear and tear to the exterior wood, to be expected with a vintage item. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. The Herbert Gibbs label is in place on the back of the piece.
