Rare Large Vintage 1960s Restored Nathan Teak Sideboard

A sleek and stylish teak sideboard, made by Nathan for Heals in the 1960s. Nathan was a British brand, established in the early 20th century, making good quality, fairly traditional furniture for the average home. However, in 1963, it caught up with its contemporaries, and officially went ‘Scandinavian’ using solid teak with more streamlined, modern designs. In the late sixtie, they moved upmarket with more unusual, cutting-edge motifs, such as the more commonly seen ‘Circle’ sideboard, and we believe that this particular sideboard hails from this period too. It’s beautifully constructed, with dove-tail joints and organic-shaped handles that come together to form circles on the drawers and cupboards. The sideboard comprises of two single cupboards, one with a shelf and a bank of three drawers, the top one being sectioned.  A rare opportunity to own a scarcely seen and desirable mid-Century British teak sideboard in excellent restored condition.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, used condition. The unit and drawers have been fully stripped and sanded before being finished with two coats of professional-grade teak furniture oil and waxed with Gilboy’s All-matural Beeswax polish. As to be expected with a piece of this vintage, there are some minor small scuffs and marks, but these are barely noticeable and in no way detract from the overall appearance of the sideboard. Please refer to our photographs for more details. The cupboard doors and drawers move freely and there are no signs of any repairs. Overall it’s an outstanding piece, well constructed and in superb condition. Sadly the maker’s label is no longer affixed to the item but this is a well documented Nathan design so we attribute it with 100% confidence.
