Elegant Midcentury Danish Rosewood Cabinet by Carlo Jensen for Hundevad

A particularly handsome, midcentury two door cabinet / small sideboard, designed by Carlo Jensen for Hundevad. Clean-lined, minimalist and simple, it’s designed to let the rosewood take centre-stage. The richly marked patina is beautiful. By happy accident there is some sunlight fading on the front doors and top but actually this serves to enhance the grain, giving it a golden, honeyed glow. The compact proportions of this cabinet make it a versatile, useful piece of furniture. Not as large as a regular sideboard but bigger than a standard cabinet, this could be used for a multitude of storage options in a home from family space to dining room to home office and lounge. Within the cupboards are adjustable drawers and shelves to make organising easy. And of course this piece comes stamped with the maker’s mark and quality assurance with the Made in Denmark plate. A prestige piece.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the unit inside and out, and applied a light natural beeswax polish but otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in good order. The two cabinet doors open and close with ease and each side can has working locks with a single key for both. The left hand side features three drawers, all very well-made and all clean and tidy. The top drawer is felt lined, originally intended for cutlery. The right hand cupboard features two height adjustable shelves and again the interior is very clean and tidy. The exterior wood is lightly sunlight faded across the door fronts and in a band along the top front surface – this is clearly shown in our photos. There are minor superficial scratches and scuffs here and there to the exterior wood on the sides and top surface but this is light and in line with its age. It’s very well-made, a solid and stable piece. The original Hundevad stamp can be seen on the back of the piece along with the Made in Denmark quality badge inside the cabinet.  It most likely dates from the late 1960s / early 1970s.
