Vintage West African Senufo Chief’s Carved Palaver Chair Back

If you want to create a feature wall or perhaps add interest to a stairwell space or boring spot, then this giant could be for you. Dramatic, abstract and exotic, this is a hand-carved chair back. Originally a separate, two-pronged seat would have slotted into the holes which sadly we don’t have this but nonetheless this would make a fantastic wall-mounted decorative work of art with history and character. We can’t give a date but hazard a guess that it’s at least 50+ years old. It originates from the Ivory Coast, West Africa and is decorated with an out-stretched crocodile across the back. What’s most remarkable is that it’s been carved from one single piece of African hardwood. You can see the chisel marks across its surfaces.
