Vintage 1970s Display Bookcase Cabinet by Turnidge

Made by British manufacturer, Turnidge of London, in the early 1970s, this is a practical, freestanding piece. Tall and shallow, it will tuck into a nook or alcove with ease and it’s the perfect cabinet for showcasing precious treasures and books with a large glazed top section that has adjustable shelves inside. Down below are two drawers for hidden storage featuring Turnidge’s signature recessed round handles. A really well-made piece that’s got masses of vintage charm but this doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to find a midcentury-themed home. Its design and wood tone is actually fairly neutral and unassuming so it will slot in alongside older or more modern furniture.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the external surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The two lower drawers slide well, are nicely made with dovetail joints, and are clean and tidy inside. There is a good quality repair made to the left hand drawer handle which we have shown in our photos. It’s been well done, is very securely adhered and is barely noticeable. The large glazed upper section features two sliding glass doors that are in very good order, sliding freely in their runners. The interior is clean and tidy with just light signs of use. There are two height adjustable shelves inside. There are minor scuffs and marks on the exterior surfaces, primarily on the cabinet top, as shown. There are some water marks and blemishes here but being on the top they aren’t particularly visible. There is also a little fading from use around the handles – please refer to our photos. It’s very stable and solid, well-made and with no signs of repair, and dates from the early 1970s. The maker’s label can be found inside the drawer.
