Slim Vintage 1960s Teak Sideboard by Austinsuite

An unusual piece from reputable British maker, Austinsuite, made in the late 1960s, this slim teak sideboard (most likely formerly a vanity stand) is really very elegant, sitting on particularly long, tapered legs. We love the clean, minimalist design, sleek and pared back with subtle details like the darker band of rosewood that runs along the top width. With a depth from the wall of just 43 cm and those legs creating lots of space underneath, it doesn’t feel like bulky or space-demanding like so many MCM sideboards do, yet there is still plentiful storage across six drawers.

Description

This is an original, vintage sideboard that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in good – very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the sideboard inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood but otherwise the finish is original. All six drawers are well made with dovetail joints, have clean, tidy interiors and slide with ease. There are some minor scratches, faint darker patches and scuffs to the exterior wood as you would expect with a vintage piece of this age. This is primarily on the top surface. It’s not especially noticeable but please do refer to our photos. It’s a really well-made, practical piece of storage furniture that’s solidly constructed with no signs of repair. Sadly the maker’s label is no longer in place but we attribute with confidence as we have sold the same model several times over the years.
