Original Vintage Ercol Model 383 Drop Leaf Plank Dining Table

An iconic piece of British mid-century design from Lucian Ercolani in superb, freshly restored condition. Made between 1957 – 1972, this Ercol model 383 plank dining table has two drop leaves so can be set at three different sizes. A really practical design for a more compact dining space or kitchen. It’s made in Ercol’s preferred blonde wood with a solid English elm top and beech splayed legs. These Ercol tables are characterised by their table tops with softly tapered edges that gently slope off. The honey-toned patina of the elm is simply stunning and in our view the grain of vintage Ercol wood is so much more interesting and characterful than its later pieces. Just marvel at the rich lines of grain on this table top. A timeless design that never goes out of fashion, an Ercol piece of furniture is for life.

Description

This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the table, and the table top has been fully restored, a process that involved chemically stripping away the original finish (gentler than sanding ensuring the vintage character of the piece isn’t removed entirely), followed by layers of oil and then wax polish for a durable, consistent finish. The table underside and legs have been cleaned and buffed with a natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original here. It carries some very light scuffs and marks here and there, as you would expect with a vintage piece of this age – do browse our photos for an accurate representation of tone and condition. It is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair. The drop leaves extend by lifting and pulling out the arms underneath. All mechanisms and hinges are in very good, working order. Sadly the blue Ercol sticker is no longer in place but it’s undoubtedly Ercol and the table dates from sixties.
