Vintage 1950s C Range Oak Chest of Drawers by John & Sylvia Reid for Stag

This is one of those pieces that looks both midcentury and contemporary – and that’s classic, timeless design. Designed by power couple, John and Sylvia Reid for Stag in the 1950s, this is from their C (Cumberland) range. The light oak makes a refreshing change from teak and as such creates a lighter, less bulky piece of functional furniture. The design is refined and clean with long, lower recessed handles and cylindrical legs. Lots of storage across three drawers, a lovely slice of midcentury that will mix and match with other furniture.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good – very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece inside, and the exterior surfaces have been fully restored, a process that involved chemically stripping away the original finish (gentler than sanding ensuring the vintage character of the piece isn’t removed entirely), followed by layers of oil and then wax polish for a durable, consistent finish. The three drawers are really well-made with dovetail joints, they slide easily and have clean, tidy interiors. There are some minor knocks and blemishes here and there which can be seen across our photos, just light wear and tear in line with its age. It’s well-made, solid and stable. Sadly the Stag label is no longer in place inside the drawer.
