Vintage 1960s Small Glazed Bookcase by Robert Heritage for Beaver & Tapley

Designed by Robert Heritage for furniture maker, Beaver & Tapley Ltd in the 1960s, as part of its ‘Multi-width’ range, this is a nice piece of Brit midcentury. Inside is an adjustable shelf, giving you flexibility and plenty of storage for books or other treasures, behind sliding glass doors. The proportions are neat and compact, perfect for sitting discreetly against the wall, in an alcove or behind a chair.

Description

This original, vintage bookcase is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise the original finish has been left alone. The glass doors are in very good order and slide with ease in their runners. The bookcase interior and shelf are clean and tidy with just light wear and tear. The shelf is adjustable. There are minor knocks and blemishes to the exterior wood surfaces as you might expect on a vintage piece but we would categorise this as light – please browse our photos. The backing ply had lifted a little on one side (it had dried out and warped a touch with age and humidity) which we’ve stabilised and flattened – refer to our photos of the back and inside lower shelf. Obviously, as this is on the back of a piece designed to be set against a wall, it doesn’t show. It’s well made cabinet by a highly regarded manufacturer. The Beaver & Tapley ‘Multi-Width’ label is in place.
