Rare Late 1950s Chest of Drawers by John & Sylvia Reid for Stag

A very rare piece by British midcentury furniture maker, Stag, we feel very lucky to have acquired this exceptional chest of drawers. Designed by power duo, John & Sylvia Reid, this short-run collection predates their Fineline range of the early sixties, dating this to the late fifties. Using the two different wood tones of teak and maple to great effect, this chest of drawers looks midcentury and contemporary in equal measure. Minimalist overall but with accents and details that are striking and ahead of their time. We love the border around the top, the tapered legs and the slender silver metal handles. With plentiful storage across three wide drawers, the overall proportions are compact and low so perfect for a smaller bedroom.

Description

This is an original, vintage chest of drawers that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and used a natural beeswax polish on the external surfaces to restore some shine but otherwise the finish is all original and it’s in fantastic condition throughout with just very light, superficial scuffs and marks from use. The three graduated drawers slide with ease, are beautifully made with dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors. This is a very well-made piece that’s sturdy and solid with no areas of concern or repairs. The Stag maker’s mark can be found in one of the drawers.
