Vintage British 1940s ex MOD Mahogany Chest of Drawers

This British, ex-Ministry of Defence, 1940s, vintage chest of drawers must have seen some action! Originally commissioned by the War Department, most likely for bases and barracks, it’s utilitarian in design, unfussy and no-nonsense, but it retains considerable old-fashioned charm and of course, provides masses of storage with five drawers – three large, two small. As you might expect with furniture of this nature, it’s extremely well-made in mahogany with pull handles and dovetail joints. And the patina of the mahogany grain is a joy, rich, warm and textural. The chest is crown stamped on the back with the initials WD signifying ‘War Department’. A wonderful piece of heritage and history, as well as practical for the modern home.
