Vintage 1970s G Plan Form 5 Shelf Unit with Drawers

Freestanding shelf units, such as this handsome, late 1960s / early 1970s one, are versatile pieces, starting with the fact they negate the need for fixed, built-in shelves. Designed by R Bennett for G Plan, as part of his popular Form 5 range that launched in 1967, he took inspiration from his Scandinavian contemporaries. And you can see that here… clean lines, midcentury simplicity, form and function. Tall but shallow, this model has four large drawers at the base unit for practical storage, and a separate upper section that simply sits on top on the base unit for display. There is a top cupboard and three upper shelves, ready to be loaded with plants, books or whatever you want to showcase. This unit would work well in the alcove by a chimney breast.
