Vintage 1960s Teak & White Lacquer Sideboard by Cees Braakman for Pastoe

Something rather special, something rather different. This unusual, tall sideboard was designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe in 1960 as part of his Japanese range. Renowned Dutch designer, Braakman, worked for Pastoe for years and his designs are now highly collectable. Heavily influenced by Eames after a spell in America, he returned to became director at Pastoe, bringing with him modern design and manufacturing methods and a passion for modular furniture. The design of this cabinet is striking not least because of its floating form on two curved, L-shaped legs but also because of its height and size. It makes a big statement. It does come with minor knocks and scuffs across its glossy surfaces so do browse our photos but this is wonderful rarity. We love its elegant simplicity on the outside – the plain white lacquered doors with their inset black handles – and the attention to detail inside the cabinet.
