Designed by Robert Heritage for furniture maker, Beaver & Tapley Ltd in the 1960s, as part of its ‘Multi-width’ range, this is a classic piece of British midcentury, heavily influenced by the Scandinavian aesthetic of the day. It’s a clever and practical home item, particularly wide but shallow and not too tall. Split into two halves, each with an adjustable shelf to create four sections, there are sliding glass doors to protect your reads. The configuration offers a great deal of flexible storage and display space to style with books and treasures. For all that this is a simple piece at first glance, there are thoughtful, elegant design details here to spot… the legs, the bevelled shelf edges, the contoured border that frames the front.
