Vintage 1940s CC41 Stamped Walnut Cabinet by GW Evans

Dating from the 1940s, this seldom seen, British made piece by GW Evans comes with a great deal of old-fashioned charm and some thoughtful design details. There is an abundance of practical storage within this two shelf cabinet. Indeed, inside you’ll find two removable tray drawers, making it a handy piece for pretty much any room of the house from bathroom to kitchen to bedroom. Simple and unfussy, it can slot easily into a mixed style living space. It was ‘Commodity Controlled’ produced item of utility furniture, made to comply with the war-time and post-war austerity scheme. This was at a time when resources, like wood, were scarce but the demand for essential domestic goods like clothes and furniture was high as so much was lost and destroyed during the war years. Furniture had to be manufactured to strict commodity-controlled (hence CC41) guidelines between 1941 – 1951. Wonderfully crafted in walnut veneer, the glossy, golden finish is all original. We can forgive the odd knock and mark here and there as this is a piece of furniture that has lasted a lifetime but still has many more years of service to go.
