Unusual Vintage 1950s Walnut Sideboard

This vintage sideboard in walnut is particularly handsome and unusual. It has a solid wood carcass (this is a heavy piece!) with a beautiful walnut veneer and darker mahogany base and round handles, giving a subtle note of distinction. We love pieces like this that bridge both traditional and midcentury design. It dates from the 1950s and is taller in height (over 90cm) but more compact in width than the later low and lean, 1960’s models. There are exaggerated curves too, around its edges and across the top, not sharp lines and angles. There’s a lot of useful storage here with two generous side  cupboards and three deep drawers, the top one sectioned and lined for cutlery. But it’s the stunning patina of the walnut that’s the true star here with beautiful stripes and bands across it surfaces.
