Unusual Midcentury Mahogany Glazed Sideboard

This unusual, statement sideboard is rather weird and wonderful… and we’re here for it. Its unique design features a generous glazed bookcase / display cabinet, along with a drinks cabinet and drawer with a removable cutlery tray. It’s significantly less wide than a regular sideboard and yet deeper with a sloped face, and taller too at just over 80cm in height. It’s made in solid mahogany which is very rare indeed especially for midcentury pieces – they’re more often than not, predominantly veneer with some solid elements, such as drawer fronts and of course, usually in teak. The construction / build is unusual too. It’s been made by someone highly skilled in wood with joints we’ve never seen before and details like the extreme angles on the legs, supporting this heavyweight piece. It’s a highly unconventional, vintage cabinet that has lead us to believe it was perhaps a bespoke commission, a one-off made to someone’s specific wants and tastes. We wonder if it might be American or Italian in origin as we don’t believe its British or Scandinavian? Who knows, and that makes it even more special.
