Set of Four Midcentury Volnay Dining Chairs by John Herbert for Younger – New Upholstery

A Younger Ltd was a British midcentury leader throughout the 1950s-1960s, producing low volume, high-end domestic pieces, often retailed through Heals. In collaboration with John Herbert, it was one of the first to be influenced by its Scandinavian contemporaries and that shows in the design of these chairs. Herbert worked with Younger for many years producing several ranges of domestic furniture including his popular ‘Volnay’ collection which these chairs were part of. Crafted in dark, solid afromosia, these are substantial, supportive chairs, giving much comfort with their contoured backs and generous seat widths.  We have upholstered the seats with a new, charcoal grey wool, with a subtle herringbone motif. It looks particularly smart against the dark wooden frames. A sophisticated, contemporary look for these fine midcentury chairs.
