Set of Four Midcentury ‘Volnay’ Afromosia Dining Chairs by John Herbert for A Younger

A Younger Ltd was a British midcentury leader in the 1950s and 1960s, producing low volume, high-end pieces, often retailed through Heals. In collaboration with John Herbert, it was one of the first to be influenced by its Scandinavian contemporaries and that shows in the design of these chairs. Herbert worked with Younger for many years producing several ranges of domestic furniture including his popular ‘Volnay’ collection which these chairs were part of. Crafted in dark, solid afromosia, these are substantial, supportive chairs, giving much comfort with their contoured backs and generous seat widths. This set includes one carver chair for the head of the table. The patterned fabric is in great order so they’re good to use as they are but if this doesn’t suit recovering the seat pads would be an easy and inexpensive.
