Crafted in golden oak, this set of four chairs from Gordon Russell, straddle both the midcentury aesthetic and more classic British design. Indeed, there’s a definite nod to the Arts & Crafts in their look, material and build. And that’s no surprise as we know Gordon Russell was greatly inspired by this movement and his skills were learnt through the traditional methods used by exponents of the Arts & Crafts. We have fully restored the frames, a labour intensive but satisfying process of carefully hand-sanding, then layers of oil and finally a beeswax polish. The seat pads have clearly been recovered in recent times as they’re in such good, clean order, especially for a light colour. You can opt to have them recovered to suit which is an easy job for a professional upholsterer. The chairs are very handsome from all sides with a simple but elegant design as well as thought and consideration given to comfort.
