What a joy to have this table pass through our doors… it’s Ercol’s seldom seen, Model 396 breakfast table, rare because you don’t often find the oval version. There is a great deal to love including Ercol’s signature soft edges, beech splayed legs and the spindled rack underneath, great for stowing placemats or the daily newspaper. Vintage Ercol pieces like this are much more interesting than contemporary versions in our view because the solid wood grain is more varied and vividly striped. Later Ercol is rather uniform and homogenous in tone and finish. Following its careful restoration, the solid English elm table top here has been brought back to life and its golden patination is glorious. With compact dimensions compared to a standard dining table this would suit a kitchen or small dining area.
