Rare Early 1960s Vintage A Younger Barsac Range French Walnut Extending Dining Table

This is a very special table and a rare find too. Made by Youngers in 1958 from their short-production Barsac range, this handsome dining table is like nothing we’ve seen before. Very stylish, very elegant, from its long tapered legs that kick out to the refined table top with its cut-in edge. But it’s the stunning table top of French walnut that is the outstanding feature here with the most beautiful bands of golden stripes across the length of the table. It almost looks animal print. The table extends easily by adding in a separate section to the middle and pushing the sides back in place. It would comfortable sit 6-8 people depending on the size of your dining chairs. We can’t imagine this table will stick around for long given its condition, its good looks and its superb midcentury pedigree. A heritage piece of the highest order.

Description

This original, vintage table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural wax polish applied. The two sides pull apart, the extension section is inserted, and the two sides closed again. The separate extension section stows cleverly underneath the table, sliding in along two grooves. It’s best for two people to pull the sides open as it’s a little stiff but better to be stiff than loose which can lead to gaps. There are very minor, superficial marks and scuffs to the legs, frame and edges but these are light and there is nothing to flag. Any wear and tear is in line with its considerable age and to be expected.  There is no maker’s stamp or label sadly, other than that of the furniture shop where the table was originally purchased from, but we have a copy of the original 1958 Younger catalogue that features black and white pictures of the table with the matching dining chairs. They were part of Youngers Barsac range.
