Vintage Ercol Model 472 Chairmaker’s Chair
A fantastic example of Ercol’s flagship ‘Chairmaker’s armchair, designed by Lucian Ercolani in 1962 to showcase the skill and craftmanship of the Ercol factory. The model features a double-bow seat back with a central slat and eight turned spindles. Upward turned armrests supported by three spindles provide added comfort. The chair is constructed from solid English Elm and Beech, and finished with the original factory dark lacquer finish. An elegant piece of British design that does not compromise on comfort and durability.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good-to-excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished the wooden frame with a natural wax polish. There are some minor signs of wear and tear, as you would expect with a vintage piece like this. This can be seen on the arm ends and at the back of the chair where it’s picked up some rub marks. This wear is superficial and only to the dark finish. We don’t feel it detracts from the appeal of the piece in any way. The frame is structurally sound, stable and sturdy with no signs of repair. It’s superbly constructed, characteristic of Ercol furniture. Refer to our photos to get a good since of the super condition of the piece and the colour. The original Ercol blue sticker is affixed to the back of the chair, dating it to the 1960s/early 1970s.
