Vintage Ercol Model 459 Windsor Plank Coffee Table

An iconic piece of British midcentury design from Lucian Ercolani, this Windsor coffee table is in cracking restored condition (apart from one area of note – see our photos and condition report) and ready to add instant style and kudos to any modern interior. It has a blond elm top with the most beautiful grain and beech splayed legs, and underneath is a slatted magazine shelf for your periodicals. This Ercol coffee table is characterised by its softly tapered, elm table top that gently slopes off. There is no hard edge or angle, the design flows. Set in front of the family couch, place it by a favourite lounge chair or let it take centre stage in the middle of your living room, wherever this piece goes it’s practical and unobtrusive. A classic piece of furniture that’s instantly recognisable and will never go out of fashion.

Description

This is an original piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition, except for some light damage to two of the legs and one of the spindles that make up the magazine shelf. It looks like it has been chewed by a dog at some point but we have carefully sanded the damage back and it’s now barely noticeable. That said, the table has been fully and beautifully restored. The original finish has been removed, it’s then been lightly sanded, oiled, waxed and polished to give a durable, hardwearing finish that retains the original colour and grain. The table is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair. The item retains it’s gold circular Ercol label on the back of the table which dates it to the 1980s.
