Vintage Art Deco Walnut Tallboy Cabinet

Somewhere between a tallboy and a gentleman’s wardrobe is this very fine antique piece. Undoubtedly Art Deco, dating from 1920s, its outer surfaces are finished in the most exquisite golden burr walnut, creating the striking patination across the front. It gives you a great deal of storage with a double door upper cupboard, three generous drawers and a lower cupboard that features the original shoe rack. Tall and stately but not too deep so won’t protrude into the room too much, it’s as handsome as they come. We love the green and black handles. Originally intended for a bedroom or dressing room, this wouldn’t look out of place in a hall, living room or family space.

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the lacquered, high sheen finish is original. The upper and lower cupboard doors are securely attached on their original hinges, have their secure, original handles and working closures. Both have clean, tidy interiors, The bottom cupboard features the original, angled shoe rack. This could be easily dismantled and removed if not required. The three drawers are very well made with dovetail joints, have solid wood cases and slide with ease. Their original handles are securely attached and all have clean, tidy interiors. It sits on hand-carved feet. The exterior surfaces do carry knocks, chips and signs of aging as you would expect. The burr walnut veneer has cracked on either side which we’ve shown. It’s unlikely to deteriorate further, it’s simply dried out exposing the joins here. There was also a small patch of veneer lifting on one of the drawer front. We’ve glued and stabilised this as well as shown it in our photos. The top surface has some crazing to the lacquer, and some marks here and there. Do refer to our photos for a good sense of its order. Overall, we feel the wear is part of its unique character and history. It’s purely superficial and doesn’t affect the function of the piece. It’s very well-crafted, solid and stable.
