Vintage 1970s Danish Tall Brown Leather ‘Skyline’ Armchair by Hove Mobler

A very handsome, vintage Danish ‘Skyline’ chair made by Hove Mobler in the 1970s. With its tall back, cantilevered frame and deep tilt, it’s a really indulgent, comfortable chair offering great support. The deep brown leather is soft, supple and in super condition, and it looks great partnered with the rich, dark tones of the bentwood frame. Chairs of this style have a particularly striking, organic form with their open curves and lines – they aren’t ‘heavy-set’ like many conventional lounge chairs. Partner with other lounge seating or use as a stand-alone chair in a bedroom or office.

Description

This original piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. The leather upholstery – a single three-section cushion – has been surface cleaned with a specialist nourishing leather cleaner. The buttons are secure, the inners are plump and the zips working. The original leather itself is lightly wrinkled and aged with use, very much part of vintage leather’s appeal. There are some small holes / gaps to the finishing fabric on the reverse of the cushion simply from wear. This is where the fabric joins the leather – we’ve shown this in a photo. It obviously doesn’t show as it’s underneath. We would perhaps recommend some fabric tape – either stick-on or iron-on – along the join to add a little stability if you felt concerned. The finishing canvas and straps that the cushion sits on is in very good order, securely held in place on the frame. The cushion fixes to the frame with poppers at the top back and front seat edge. The wooden frame has been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied. As you can see in our pictures, there is wear to the finish, particularly on the wooden arms. There are light knocks and scuffs here and there in line with its age and use. It’s superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no repairs. There is no maker’s mark on the frame but we know this to be a Hove Mobler design as part of its Skyline range, and dates from the the 1970s. Do browse our photos for a good sense of colour and condition. If you’d like to visit to see this chair, just get in touch.
