Vintage 1960s Metamorphic Drinks Trolley / Bar by McIntosh of Kirkcaldy

A really fun, talking point piece from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, this 1960s, metamorphic drinks trolley is a must for the aspiring hostess with the mostess! On one side there are open shelves and a discreet, felt-lined, sectioned drawer. Spin the trolley round and lift the side to reveal bottle storage and to create a white Formica mixing table top. The trolley is not so large but large enough that it could be used as a freestanding dividing piece to section and zone open-plan spaces. It was of course designed to function as a drinks trolley / movable bar but in a modern setting it can serve in many ways from bookshelves, side table, craft station, dining room storage, even a bathroom caddy.  Wherever it’s wheeled it will add considerable retro charm and bags of character.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, and natural beeswax polish applied to the teak wood but otherwise the finish is original. At the front are two open shelves and a hidden top drawer that’s felt-lined and sectioned. The drawer slides with ease and is clean and tidy inside. The original metal casters are in good, working order, rolling freely. The reversible back panel flips up and over to switch to a white Formica table top and it reveals the sectioned bottle storage too. There are minor knocks and marks here and there in line with its age, including a little patchiness to the teak due to sunlight fading. This can be seen in our photos – it’s minor. It’s very well constructed, solid and stable as you would expect from McIntosh. The maker’s plate can be seen inside the drawer.
