Vintage 1960s Meredew Chest of Drawers with Brass Handles

We love furniture that straddles classic midcentury and more traditional, conservative design – and this large drawer chest is a fine example of that. Made by British furniture manufacturer, Meredew in the 1960s, it’s a really well made storage piece with five drawers – three small ones over two large ones – and ‘of its time’ brass hanging handles which give it considerable vintage charm. Standing on brass-capped, tapered legs, it would be as functional in the bedroom as it would used as a sideboard in a lounge or open living space.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the external surfaces. All five drawers slide with ease and have clean, tidy interiors, apart from one where paper has stuck to the bottom and despite our best scrubbing efforts, we’ve been unable to remove it entirely! See our photo. The drawers are very well made with dovetail joins. Each has a hanging brass loop handle which have been polished. They are shiny and securely attached. There are scuffs, marks and some fading on the external wood, primarily on the top surface, with various slight scratches to the original finish – please refer to our photos to get a good sense of this. The original brass capped feet are in place and the maker’s plate can be seen in one of the drawers. It’s stable and solid, well-made and with no signs of repair, and dates from the 1960s.
