Vintage 1950s Sureline Walnut Illuminated Drinks Cocktail Cabinet

Retro bars like this may not be the most important piece of practical furniture for a modern home, but if you have the space, we can highly recommend indulging yourself because they are so much fun and always grab attention and comment when put to use. By day, a smart, two door cabinet; by night, it transforms into a glamorous cocktail bar! This authentic vintage drinks cabinet by Sureline is unmistakably fifties with its black, Sputnik legs and high-sheen walnut veneer finish. Pull down the top door with its elaborate handle and a mirrored mixing area extends and the light turns on. Spot the party graphics on the back mirror too and all bar one of the original cocktail sticks are in place. The lower cupboard features a fixed shelf, set in place so standard-size bottles can be stowed. The cabinet front is contoured, wider at its outside edges than in the centre, a neat design feature. There’s lots of storage space here. The perfect Christmas gift for yourself perhaps? It can be yours before the party season begins.

Description

This original, vintage cabinet is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good – very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned it, inside and out. The top door pulls down to reveal a mirrored, illuminated bar section with the door forming a drinks mixing area. It’s been rewired and PAT tested. Five out of six of the original cocktail sticks are in position and the back mirror features the original graphics. The interior is in very good order as is the door front – the wood, handle and trim are also in very good order. The contoured lower cabinet features a fixed shelf set high enough for standard sized bottles to fit. Again, the interior is clean and tidy, and the doors open and close with ease with all hinges and closures in good working order. There are some minor knocks, scuffs and areas of fading on the exterior wood, most notably a couple of veneer chips (see our photos – one is on the front bottom edge, one on the top edge) and a ring mark from where a glass has been left on the side. These are commensurate with the piece’s age and use though, and we don’t feel they detract from its appeal. The four Sputnik legs are lightly marked and the front two legs have their original brass caps in place. It’s well-made, solid and sturdy with no signs of structural repair or areas of concern. The maker’s plaque can be found on the inside door. Please do browse our photos for an accurate sense of this item’s great condition.
