Vintage 1950s Danish Red Striped Sofa with Ornate Frame

A grand, statement sofa in a striking striped fabric with masses of vintage charm. With curves and contours everywhere you look, its design feels rather feminine with the braid lines accentuating its flow and form. The original upholstery is in super condition with thin stripes of black, green, yellow and white. It comes with ornately carved wooden arms and brass-capped front legs which create drama and a stately presence. With neat proportions for a three seat sofa and old-fashioned but elegant details, it would bring life to any space it’s put into. And really it could go into any room for an injection of instant character and glamour. It’s comfortable too with a firm, sprung seat and a tall, contoured back. It’s Danish in origin and hails from the fifties.

Description

This original, vintage sofa is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. The on-show solid wood frame has been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied, and the upholstery has had a thorough vacuum. The original striped upholstery including the braiding and buttons is in remarkably good order considering its age. There is some fading and some light signs of wear and tear, along with the odd mark on close scrutiny, including on the top left corner which we’ve shown in our photos. There are no threadbare patches or tears to report. The carved wooden arms, trim and legs do carry light knocks and scuffs to their finish, as we’ve shown but this is minor. The two front legs have their original brass caps in place. It’s a well-made, heavy weight sofa that cannot be dismantled. It’s solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. It’s imported from Denmark and dates from the 195os.
