Vintage 1950s C Range Walnut Dressing Table by John & Sylvia Reid for Stag

Looking both midcentury and contemporary, here’s a piece of timeless design. By power couple, John and Sylvia Reid, it’s from their renowned, modernist C range that they designed for Stag in the 1950s. The Australian walnut here makes a refreshing change from teak and the richly marked, dark grain is striking across the exterior surfaces. The overall design is refined, clean-lined and minimalist with long, lower recessed handles. We love the matt black trim framing the front and mirror, echoed in the drawer handle insets and tapered legs. A stylish design touch. The mirror is generous as is the dressing table top for spreading out powders and rouges. Below are three deep drawers providing lots of bedroom / dressing rooms storage. Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have serviced and cleaned the piece inside and out, and exterior surfaces have been restored. This involved carefully chemically stripping back the original finish (gentler and less invasive than sanding), oil and then wax polish. We have also sprayed the trim, legs and inset drawer handles as to restore it to its original matt black glory. The three drawers are constructed with dovetail joints, integral handles and they slide with ease. They have clean, tidy interiors with just light signs of use. The exterior surfaces are in very good order, following their restoration, with just faint blemishes remaining. There is a minor chip on the bottom drawer’s bottom right edge which we’ve shown. It’s very discreet. The mirror is in very good order and tilts on its uprights. This isn’t a dressing table that can be readily simplified to a chest of drawers by removing the mirror as the uprights attach to a raised edge at the back of the piece.
