Vintage 1930s Extending English Oak Desk with Drawers

Here’s a traditional, neat, little vintage desk that’s a real old charmer. Made in English oak, it dates from the 1930s so it carries a few of life’s scars and knocks on its surfaces but it’s a superbly well-built piece made so has a great deal to offer. Besides, this wear and tear is very much part of its history and character. It has compact proportions but comes with the added option to extend the desktop, handily increasing the surface area when required. It comes with three drawers too and a further writing platform above them. It would be ideal for a student or a small home office space.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The three drawers slide with ease, are well-made with dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors with light signs of use inside. The handles are securely attached and there is a pull-out writing platform above the drawers. The desk is extended on the left hand side by lifting up the extension and pulling out a rest underneath, as shown. All hinges and mechanisms are in good, working order. The exterior surfaces do carry knocks, marks and signs of aging as you would expect with a piece of this nature. Do refer to our photos for a accurate sense of its order. Overall, we feel the wear is part of its unique character and history. It’s well-crafted, solid and stable, British in origin and dating from the 1930s.
