Vintage 1920s Oak Desk with Brass Inkwells

If you’re looking for a unique and characterful desk with history etches into its very fibres then you’ve found it! Made in solid English oak, this generous, two drawer desk has a wonderfully aged patina across its surfaces, especially the desk top itself. It even has its original brass inkwells in place each with sliding caps, polished up to make them shine. The drawers have their original, solid brass cup handles, nicely tarnished with age and use. This is a well-made, British piece that dates to the 1920s – 1930s, quite possibly from a school or educational institution. We love the substantial, shaped legs too and as vintage work stations go, it has old-fashioned charm in droves.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and buffed the desk, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The brass handles and inkwells have been polished to revive the solid brass. The two drawers slide with ease, are well-made with dovetail joints and have interiors that are rather marked with ink – please refer to our photo. The brass cupped handles are original and securely attached. Sadly we do not have a key for the locks. The exterior surfaces do carry knocks, scratches, marks and signs of aging too as you would expect with a piece of this nature and age. Do refer to our photos for a accurate sense of its order – this wear and tear can be clearly seen. Overall, we feel the wear is part of its unique character and history. It’s very well-crafted, solid and stable.
