Superb 1960s Elliotts Of Newbury Teak Six Drawer Dresser / Sideboard

Such a special find… a very rare Elliots of Newbury sideboard model, made for Royal Heritage Furniture and date stamped ‘1967’. It’s made in afromosia with stunning rosewood door fronts and statement contoured handles. It has been well-used and loved, and we’ve restored it sympathetically so as not to strip the life and soul out of the piece. Sideboards provide masses of practical storage in the home as well as a handsome surface for displaying favourite treasures and beautiful things, but we would recommend styling this simply and minimally to let that incredible rosewood grain take the glory. An incredible heritage piece from a great British furniture maker. Built on 14th September 1967 as stamped on the inside of the cabinet.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece thoroughly, followed by oil and a wax polish, completing a partial restoration to even out some of the wear and tear through use. All six drawers – three shallow ‘hidden’ ones along the top and three large deep lower ones – are beautifully constructed, slide with ease and are in clean and tidy order inside. The middle top drawer is velvet lined. The exterior wood does carry light signs of age and use – faint scuffs and superficial marks with some minor sunlight fading here and there. It’s minimal overall. If you browse our numerous photos you will get an accurate sense of this. Nevertheless, this is a rare find and a really well-made, elegant piece from a highly reputable British furniture maker, and these signs of age don’t detract greatly from its appeal and certainly not its function. The sideboard is sturdy and solid with no signs of repair. The furniture shop stamp where the item was originally purchased from can be seen inside a cupboard door, and at the back of the cupboard you can see the RHF stamp and date.
