Stunning Midcentury 1960s Danish Vanity Desk / Dressing Table in Solid Teak

This beautiful vanity table is something of an enigma. Detailed as a ‘Danish 1960s dressing table’ at the point of acquisition, we’ve been trying to get to the bottom of who designed it, who made it… but we’ve just drawn blanks. There are key standout features, not least the original seagreen laminate top but also the design of the legs which flow seamlessly from the table top, the superior construction and use of solid teak, and the unusual, inside V cut of those long, elegant legs. It’s very similar to Severin Haslev’s dressing table and their leg-style but not the same. Lift the central section to reveal a hinged mirror and sunken compartment for cosmetics and toiletries with a deeper section at the back for tall bottles, a thoughtful design feature. For all that we’ve not succeeded in attributing it, it’s a very fine, top quality piece of midcentury design and highly unusual. We can’t find anything quite like it, it’s a rare find.

Description

This is an original, vintage dressing table that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned it, oiled the wood and applied a natural beeswax polish to the external surfaces. Lift the central section to reveal a vanity mirror and a recessed ‘hidden’ storage area, including a deeper section to accommodate bottles. These internal areas have some light signs of use but are overall in very good clean, tidy order, as is the mirror and hinge mechanism. The top surface is a seagreen formica-style laminate (this is original) and there are some light scratches and faded areas here and there – please do browse our photos. We would categorise this wear as light and not particularly noticeable. The solid teak wood is in excellent order with just minimal wear and tear. Sadly (frustratingly!) there is no maker’s mark but at the point of acquisition it was described as a ‘Danish midcentury vanity table’ and we believe this to be so. The build is of a very high quality, the wear and design make it undoubtedly 1960s / midcentury, and the style and details would lead us to conclude it’s of Danish origin. We just can’t attribute it. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
