Small Vintage 1950s Oak Bureau Bookcase

As vintage bureau bookcases go, this is about as neat and compact as you could find. And yet it gives you a generous enough desk and glazed storage below so although the dimensions are small, it doesn’t compromise on practicality, or old fashioned charm for that matter. Bureaus like this present a good occasional desk solution for those who have working from home days but not the room for a conventional desk. It’s compact, not space hungry and can be locked shut when the work is done. The style and size of this one would be especially good for a student or child’s bedroom. We love the golden oak, particularly the striking radiated patina on the fall door.

Description

This original, vintage bureau is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good, used condition. The piece has been cleaned, inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied and buffed on the external surfaces, but otherwise the finish here is original, and as such there are some minor signs of ageing and use. The lower section is a glazed bookcase with a fixed shelf. The glass doors are in very good order and slide easily. The upper section is a bureau / cupboard with a fall door. All interiors are clean and tidy with light signs of use. The bureau has a working lock and key. There are marks, blemishes and scuffs here and there on the exterior wood surfaces which can be seen across our numerous photos. We don’t believe this affects its appeal and is in line with what one might expect to see on a vintage piece of this nature. It’s a nicely made, practical piece of furniture with no areas of concern. It’s stable and solidly made. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but most likely dates from the 1950s. Do browse through our images for a true sense of this piece. Any questions, please do ask.
