Set of Six Vintage 1960s Ercol Model 370 & 370A Dining Chairs

Here is a fully restored set of highly coveted Ercol 370 dining chairs with two 370A carver chairs. One of the most popular and enduring chair designs in the Ercol Windsor range, the 370 and 370A were made between 1957 and 1982. These particular chairs date from the 1960s. Made from solid British elm and beech ‘blond’ woods with six back spindles and a generous seat height and width, providing great comfort. We love the upturned, welcoming arms of the carver chairs. This is classic, vintage Ercol at its best. They built furniture to last and the fact these chairs are 50+ years old and still solid and stable proves that. They have much to offer and would be as at home in a midcentury inspired interior as they would around a homely country cottage kitchen table. The restoration process for an Ercol dining chair is a labour of love as in our view they require hand-sanding to get the best finish without being too hard and invasive. This takes a great deal of time but the results are worth it.

Description

This set of six original, vintage dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good – very good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned and restored, a long process that involved removing the original finish by hand-sanding so as not to be too harsh and invasive, then coats of oil, finishing with a natural wax polish and buffed to a shine. The set is comprised of two carver chairs and four regular chairs. The four regular chairs are in good – very good order. There are minor knocks and marks here and there but this is in line with their age and very much part of their appeal. One of the four had a small split on the top of the hoop back which has been filled and repaired well – it’s barely noticeable. One of the chairs has the remnants of a label on the back. The two carvers are in good order, perhaps a little more worn / used than the 370s. Both had minor splits on the crests of their hoop backs which we have stabilised, filled and repaired. They should present no further issue. Again, here are light blemishes and scuffs here and there which can be seen across our photos but overall the wear and tear is minimal – these chairs are in remarkably good order, following their careful refurbishment. Both carvers have the blue Ercol label in place and all chairs are stamped underneath. They are very well-made as you would expect from Ercol, solid and stable with no wobbles or areas of concern.
