Set of Six Vintage 1960s Dining Chairs by Richard Hornby for Fyne Ladye – New Upholstery

These beautifully crafted dining chairs date from the early sixties and are in just fantastic order. Designed by Richard Hornby for renowned British furniture makers, Fyne Ladye, they are solid afromosia. Fyne Ladye almost exclusively used afromosia, an African hardwood, that’s darker and less orange than teak but it became scarcer from 1962 as costs to import it made its use prohibitive. The chair frames carry only very minor marks and blemishes, quite remarkable really given their age and purpose, and a testament to how well made they are. The seat pads have been professionally reupholstered in a smart, mid-blue tweed from Camira’s Mainline Flax range, which is an all-natural blend of flax and wool. Of course, if this colour and fabric choice don’t suit, recovering them would be an easy, cost effective job with an upholsterer as the seat pads simply drop in. We love the thinner, dark lines of these chairs which adds subtle drama to their profiles. Very classy indeed.

Description

This original, vintage set of six dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in very good, used condition and have been newly reupholstered. The solid afromosia chair frames have been thoroughly cleaned, checked and wax polished but otherwise their finish is original. They are in very good order overall. There are very minor, superficial scuffs and blemishes here and there, as you might expect with furniture of this age. The seat pads, which simply drop into position, have been upholstered in a high grade natural fibre (flax and wool) tweed by Camira Fabric’s Mainline Flax range. All six chairs are solid and stable with no areas of concern or repairs evident.  As you can appreciate from our photos, these chairs are superbly crafted. Sadly there is no maker’s mark now they have been recovered but these are well-documented, design classics that we attribute with confidence. We have a weekly collection and onward delivery usually follows 1-5 days later.
