Set of Six British 1960s Teak Dining Chairs

This is such a handsome, top quality set of midcentury dining chairs but it has had us scratching our heads. With the unusual, striking X design of the chair backs we had hoped to find something similar to identify them and establish their age and origin but we’ve drawn blanks wherever we’ve turned. We believe they are British-made and their style and construction takes us to the 1960s, most probably early part of the decade. Their design sits between traditional and midcentury, our favourite place, and they would go just as well around a rustic kitchen table as they would a classic, clean mid-century dining table. They’re very comfortable, especially so the carvers with their contoured arms, and we love the original olive green upholstery which looks grand against the dark, solid teak.

Description

This set of original, vintage chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are in very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the chairs and the solid teak wooden frames have undergone a full restoration – careful sanding and stripping to remove the original, worn finish, followed by layers of hard wax Osmo oil and finished with Gilboy’s all natural polish for a matt, durable finish. There are some minor knocks still here and there to the wood as you would expect of a vintage piece. All six chairs are expertly crafted with no repairs or areas of concern, and they are solid and wobble-free. The original olive green upholstery is in great order considering its age. There are only a couple of very faint marks and some sunlight fading, primarily on the two carvers. Please refer to our photos. Frustratingly we’ve not been able to attribute these chairs. We believe they are British in origin and their style and build suggests that date from the 1960s.
