Set of Four Vintage Early 1950s Dining Chairs – Newly Reupholstered

Dating from somewhere between mid-1940s to the early 1950s, this set of four dining chairs comes with a good dose of vintage charm and character, but brought up to date with fresh, new upholstery. They were ‘Commodity Controlled’ produced items (you can see the CC stamp underneath each chair), made to comply with Britain’s war-time and post-war utility scheme. This was at a time when resources, like wood, were scarce but the demand for essential domestic goods like clothes and furniture continued. CC furniture had to be manufactured to strict austerity guidelines but make no mistake, these pieces are superbly crafted, built to last a lifetime and beyond. Their design is simple and utilitarian but this makes them easy pieces to slot into a mixed style home. We have brought them up to date with a teal blue wool that’s hard-wearing and complements the dark tones of the wood wonderfully.

Description

This set of four original, vintage chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good – very good, used condition. The frames have been checked, cleaned and a neutral, natural wax polish applied to their wood but otherwise the original finish has been left alone. They carry minor, superficial scuffs and marks here and there. Do browse our photos for an accurate sense of this. The seat pads have been reupholstered with new foam and fabric, a hardwearing, teal blue wool.  The chairs are solid and sturdy with no wobbles. Sadly we’ve not been able to definitively attribute these chairs but they are British in origin and date from the mid 1940s / early 1950s. Each has the CC ‘Commodity Controlled’ stamp underneath, dating them very specifically to this period.
