Set of Four Vintage 1950s Ercol Model 243 Windsor Dining Chairs

One of Ercol’s scarcely seen dining chair models and as such, a wonderful snapshot of the evolution of their much loved Windsor chair, still made today. This set date to the 1950s and was only briefly manufactured. It was a transitional design that sits between the CC41 post-war Windsors and the later D-shaped seat models that got more refined with the signature chamfered edge and seats that widened (to accommodate the nation’s growing bottoms?!) as the years went by. The 243s are characterised by their curved fiddle-shaped seats and flat sides. They’re often passed by as people assume they’re Ercol imposters but they are the real deal, marking a very specific moment in Ercol’s history, and we love them for that.

Description

This original, vintage set of four chairs is ‘sold as seen’. All the chairs are in overall good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned and wax polished to retain and revive their original finish. There are no wobbles or joint concerns, and no repairs visible, but there are some surface scuffs, knocks and marks as you would expect with used, vintage chairs of their significant age. There are no Ercol labels but each is stamped underneath. Do browse our photos for a good sense of their order. If you would like to view the chairs or have any queries, please do get in touch.
