Rare Vintage 1960s Austinsuite Teak Sideboard

An unusual piece from reputable British maker, Austinsuite, made in the late 1960s, this long, slim sideboard is really very elegant, sitting on particularly long, tapered legs. Quite possibly a dressing table in a former life (there are marks where a mirror may have screwed in place on the back), it’s now a beautiful sideboard with six generous drawers for storage. We love the flow of the grain across the drawer fronts – vertical on the smaller, side drawers and horizontal on the wide central ones. And the wood tone is gorgeous with golden, honey hues weaving across the surfaces, a welcome change from the more common red tones of teak. With a depth from the wall of just 43 cm and those legs creating lots of space underneath, it doesn’t feel like a bulky, heavy sideboard like so many mid century ones are.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish has been applied to the exterior wood. There are some small blemishes on the top surface, shown in our photos but they are not particularly noticeable.  Otherwise, there are just minor surface marks and scuffs here and there to the exterior wood and the long legs. Overall though, nothing to call out, just light signs of wear and tear in line with its age and function. All six drawers slide with ease, are clean and tidy inside, and are constructed with dovetail joints. It’s a very well-made piece, solid and stable, and it dates from the late 1960s.  The gold Austinsuite maker’s stamp can be seen in the middle drawer.
