Pair of Newly Restored Vintage British Parker Knoll Armchairs

A really handsome pair of vintage armchairs, very skillfully reupholstered in recent years in a neutral, pale silky fabric with a diamond repeat motif. Their design is rather more traditional than our usual clean-cut midcentury sofas and chairs but they make a welcome change and means they would slot easily into all kinds of interiors whatever the style, the era and the colour palette. We believe they’re British-made by reputable manufacturer, Parker Knoll. Often associated with wooden framed, rather ‘no frills’ lounge chairs, these are a cut above and more in line with their Malton range counterparts, ground-breaking back in the day, taking direct influence from their Scandinavian design contemporaries. This pair have some wonderful midcentury features… the kick of the rear legs, the roll of the arms, the considered design from every angle. Perfect for the bedroom, a snug, the lounge, fireside or anywhere, frankly.

Description

This sale is for a pair of original, vintage chairs and they are ‘sold as seen’. They are in very good, used condition and they have been restored at some point in recent years. We have given them a thorough vacuum and cleaned and polished the wooden legs. They have been professionally reupholstered in a neutral patterned fabric with a discreet diamond motif. The fabric has a sheen to it giving it a silky, satin look and feel although sadly we don’t know the fabric’s constitution. The reupholstery has been skillfully done to a very high standard with piped borders, a double sided cushion (so it can be turned) and with the fabric hugging the contours of the chairs very well. The chairs are even finished neatly with hessian underneath as traditional upholstery should. There are some slight patches of discolouration from use. These are in the usual places for such chairs – along the top back where the head rests and on the arm ends. This is very faint though and only really noticeable in certain lights. You could opt to have the chairs professionally cleaned – a worthwhile exercise given how fantastic the upholstery is – and this should remove these traces of use. There are some minor chips to the finish on the wooden legs and visible frame trim but as you can, this is not particularly noticeable. The chairs are well-made, stable and sturdy with no creaks or signs of repair. There is no maker’s mark on either chair but we believe they are most likely British and made by Parker Knoll in the late 1960s / early 1970s. Please browse through our photos for a really good sense of colour and condition.
